L’HOTEL DES SEVE
| Location : Ile Seguin, Paris Area | Category: International Tender – competition – mixed use – hotel | Size: 12,000SQM | Operator: Kempinski Hotels & resorts | Status: Selected yet project abandoned
The brief was to regenerate the eroded anomaly of Ile Seguin; a unique location that had served as the site of the Renault car factory and had lost its meaning and identity. Developed in conjunction with Kempinski Hotels and Resorts, the proposal aimed to extend the attraction of the island that was to be the site of Pinault’s contemporary Art collection. The creation of a 5 star hotel, the inclusion of dynamic events and cultural space and the creation of an extensive and exclusive health care center were to serve as the basis for a radical architectural proposal. Inspired by the image of the formalized French gardens and their relationship to Art, the proposed scheme offered an abstraction of both nature and art through the overlapping of textures and mass. The result was a visual hybrid that housed a complex mixed-use program that constantly interacted with the uniqueness of the location. Although both Kampinski & the local authorities enthusiastically adopted the project, the withdrawal of Pinault’s museum from the Ile Seguin site rendered the scheme financially too speculative.
